SPURS FAN SONNY ⚪🔵

Ledley King with Sonny

Which team do you support and what makes them special to you?

I have been a Tottenham fan all my life, my grandad was Spurs and so is my dad. I used to love going to the old White Hart Lane and now really enjoy the new stadium. I love this club as it is a real community and we've had so many exciting players and I just enjoy the fact we've been underdogs for many decades but always seem to disrupt and punch above our weight.

Can you recall your most unforgettable game experience?

One of my favourite games was the 5-0 win over Burnley back in 2019, this game featured an unreal strike from Harry Kane from long range but the highlight was Heung-Min Son scoring the goal which won the 2020 Puskas award! He ran the length of the pitch, beating 6 Burnley players and tucked it home. Also the first home game of this season was great, as it was Postecoglou’s first home game and the atmosphere was immense.

What’s your favourite jersey design and why does it stand out to you?

This is hard to pick, but if I HAD to narrow it down when you think of Spurs kits you think of the Holsten sponsored kits. The pony ones were class, with some proper retro designs, but one that stands out is the home from late 1990s and early 2000s - the stripes are iconic and the colour is perfect.

Do you have any match day stories or pre-game rituals?

I never saw Spurs lose at White Hart Lane and I have only seen two losses in person at the new stadium which were Villa this season and Arsenal last. But my usual matchday ritual is to get the tube into Seven Sisters and walk down the Tottenham High Road as it feels like a pilgrimage that way and have a few drinks in the Number 8 on the corner of the stadium.

Who is your favourite athlete/player and what qualities make them your top pick?

I am going to have to pick a Spurs player for this and am going to go with Harry Kane. Was devastated when he left the club, but I can’t ignore how good he was for our football club. The highest goalscorer and a real gentleman on and off the pitch.

What does the sport mean to you and what’s your earliest memory of falling in love with it?

It is my life. I think about football everyday as it is my job (at talkSPORT) and also it takes up my spare time (Sonny Talks Spurs YouTube channel). I love the club I support even if we do not win trophies, some of my best memories are following Spurs and I would not have it any other way. I remember those early seasons under Martin Jol, winning the League Cup under Juande Ramos, Harry Redknapp building the club up playing in the Champions League for the first time and battling against the reigning holders Inter Milan - it was sublime!
